We are experts in green certifications for your home. We believe that third-party certifications, such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Homes, Energy Star, and Earth Advantage, provide tremendous added value for you. You will realize this added value in several ways: reduced utility bills, increased quality and durability, and a reduced environmental impact.

We truly believe that a greener custom home is a better custom home.

Here is a brief explanation of the three main green certifications for your custom home:

1. LEED for Homes

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) for Homes is one of the most comprehensive and widely respected green building certification programs in the world. Designed specifically for residential construction, LEED evaluates a home’s performance across multiple categories, including energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor air quality, sustainable materials, site stewardship, and overall design innovation. Homes can earn Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum status based on verified performance.

What sets LEED apart is its rigorous third-party verification process, ensuring every detail—from insulation and HVAC efficiency to low-emitting materials and responsible resource use—meets strict sustainability standards. A LEED-certified home offers long-term benefits such as lower operating costs, improved comfort and health, increased durability, and a reduced environmental footprint, making it an excellent choice for homeowners who want the highest level of green building performance.

2. Energy Star

Energy Star is a nationally recognized, government-backed program that certifies a home as more energy efficient than a typical home built to code. It focuses on envelope tightness, insulation, window efficiency, heating and cooling systems, water heating, lighting, and appliances. Today, if we are building a quality custom home, Energy Star certification is a minimum certification that can be achieved for almost any home we design.

3. Earth Advantage

Earth Advantage is a whole-home green certification program. It certifies homes as Earth Advantage Silver, Gold, or Platinum. This certification includes and improves upon the Energy Star certification. Besides energy efficiency, which is a large part of this program, Earth Advantage includes building a more durable home, water efficiency, indoor air quality, optimal site selection, resource efficiency (recycling, buying local products, minimizing waste, etc.), and renewable energy.

One of the greatest values of Earth Advantage and the other green certifications is the independent third-party verifiers who physically inspect your home. This assures that you are really getting what you want.

Another feature Earth Advantage offers is the Energy Performance Score (EPS). The EPS gives you a “miles-per-gallon” of your home relative to a code-built home. This way, you can see how your home should perform from an energy use standpoint. Also, for a limited time, we are offering FREE Earth Advantage certification!
